Car Service – Applicable Measures for Preventing a Blown-Out Tyre

Craig Hicks

While driving is relatively safe, there are some hazards that you could be exposed to on the road. One scary encounter that you can experience is a blown-out tyre. For some people, this seems like an unlikely occurrence, as they believe you have to drive over sharp objects for tyres to burst. However, this is a misconception. Tyre bursts typically occur due to lack of tyre maintenance coupled with high-speed driving, and the consequences are terrifying. Not only can you lose control of your vehicle, but you can also inadvertently end up harming other road users. Moreover, the panic that ensues will leave you shaken. Luckily, there are several maintenance tips you can employ to avoid this safety hazard. Below are two applicable car service measures for preventing a blown-out tyre.

Have your tyres rotated on a periodic basis

If you are a newbie motorist, you may be astonished to realise that your tyres do not wear down at the same rate. In fact, the front tyres of your vehicle will succumb faster to wear as compared to your rear tyres. Hence, if you keep driving your car without rotating the position of the tyres, then you will find that parts of the front tyres start to weaken, and this exponentially increases the chance of experiencing a blowout.

The good news is that you do not have to resort to frequent replacement of the front tyres, as this will be unbelievably expensive. Instead, you should elect to have tyre rotation as part of your car service so that these auto parts can experience even wear.

Have your tyres aligned and balanced routinely

With prolonged driving and the subsequent wearing of the tyres, you should note that the weight distribution of your vehicle would also become affected. As this distribution shifts from the original state, your car will start to become imbalanced. Not addressing his uneven distribution causes you to eventually experience resistance when steering as well as enhanced tyre damage. Hence, your vehicle also gains at a higher risk of developing a blown-out tyre.

When you take your vehicle for car servicing, you should also include routine alignment of the tyres to mitigate the displacement they experience once weight distribution is shifted. The mechanic will restore them to the manufacturer's specified angle, and this prevents further damage. In addition to this, it is also critical to have the tyres balanced so that they are all positioned correctly and evenly when you are driving.
